Perapera-kun 2.1 Released

tokubetsu November 25, 2011 at 4:02 am

Version 8 is nice but should allow use of the famous and original dummit hanzi color system where 1=red 2=yellow 3=green and 4=blue. pinyin should be colored also.

Thanks for the feedback. We will consider adding color customization in the next upgrade if there’s a big enough demand for it.

Mads November 29, 2011 at 11:52 pm

Seriously, you should just change it to that system. It is what all the pinyin plugins for Anki use as default. This is also what MDBG uses (For those who don’t know, they are the sponsors of the CC-CEDICT, the dictionary that powers the Chinese peraperakun)

It’s an emerging standard and it would be better for all students if everybody used the same color scheme.

There seem to be several standards out there so it’s hard to please everyone. For this release we just wanted to put the colors out there and see what people thought. Customization seems to be the consensus so far but we will listen to all your opinions! Thanks for the comment!

I’ve actually never seen any other color scheme. I don’t think full customization is necessary, just conformity with other tools like Anki and MDBG.

The presence of colors is nice, but very confusing that they’re different.

Hi Andy. Thanks for the feedback. As it seems to be a common issue we will look to sort out the colors in the next update.

Color customization would be great!

The newest PeraPerakun no longer works with Japanese words for me.

admin November 28, 2011 at 12:29 pm

Hi. The new Japanese version will be released soon. Please uninstall and download the Japanese plugin here. Your version will then upgrade automatically to the new one once it is released. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I like the update, the new skin looks nice and all, but there are a few problems: First of all I now have 1 peraperakun button that has no icon and seemingly doesn’t do anything, as well as the actual, working peraperakun button. I also have two lookupbar buttons, with the same icon, only one is greyed out.

When I activate the lookupbar with either button, searches failes to generate any visible results, although the copy result to paste-board function actually copies translations.

Lastly I have realized that I can safely remove the Chinese dictionary plugin – this could have been communicated better, IMHO.

With all this said and done, many thanks for the continued development of this great application – a must have for any Chinese student!

I’m on Firefox beta channel, OSX Snow leopard.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. We’re glad you like our app!

As for your problem, this version of Perapera was made for Firefox 8. We haven’t tested it for the Beta releases which might explain why you are having some issues. I therefore recommend you use Firefox 8. That aside, one user reported that a similar problem with the icon resolved itself after rebooting his Mac. Try that out and see if that improves things.

Chinese Perapera kun just disappeared from my add on bar. My firefox says it still installed but it’s really gone from that lower right corner. i tried re-installing but the result is the same. What’s happening?

admin December 1, 2011 at 2:31 pm

Hi Cris. Are you using Firefox 8? The icon is now displayed in the top right of the browser.

Hi! I’m glad that you were able to update Perapera to work with Firefox 8.0. It’s so lame that they forced you to make an update. Anyway, I noticed a slight difference in functionality for the copy-paste function. I used to be able to have tone marks in the clipboard, but now it seems to revert to using tone numbers only. I copy stuff directly into Anki, and marks are my preference, so it would be nice to be able to configure that (like in the previous versions of Perapera). Any chance we’ll get to customize the clipboard options in a future revision? Or am I just missing the place in the control window where we can configure that? Thanks!

Brett December 2, 2011 at 7:08 am

Hmm, I have an update. It looks like I’m also unable to configure “Number of Entries Copied to Clipboard” and “Number of Entries Copied to Wordlist”. Those functions disappeared in this update. Will we get them back?

Hi there!
Firstly, thanks for the great popup addon for the firefox!
We have a small community here (, which dedicated to creation of Chinese-Russian-Russian-Chinese dictionary. It based on very well known dictionary in Russia made by academic Oshanin, it is completely free and everybody could paticipate in it’s creation by adding new words, search and correct mistakes and so on. We find your popup addon very useful and ask you if is it possible to convert our dictionary to the format that would be compatible with the addon? If it possible, could you explain how to do it? Thanks.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. We’d definitely be interested in helping with this and incorporating Russian. Please get in touch with us: info (at)
